Traveling For That Concert High

When you stop to think about why you travel, about a million reasons may come to mind.  Leaving home to visit family is probably on top of that list, or maybe you want to recreate childhood memories of wonderful trips and share them with your loved ones. Perhaps it’s a bucket list that you’ve tucked away in your mind to accomplish. One reason many people don’t think about is traveling for concerts. A fun excuse to travel, combining your passion for music with your love of traveling can lead to amazing visits to wonderful places near and far!

Concert Travel

Everyone has a favorite band or singer that you always try to see when they come to town. It’s not that big a stretch to follow them all over the country and even the world. When traveling for concerts, you have the opportunity to explore the cities where they perform. New York: where do you start? Broadway, the High Line, world-class museums, and oh yes, a great restaurant or two. Chicago: jazz/blues, fabulous shopping, and dining all over the city. Denver: art museums, symphony, Coors Field and the best outdoor concert venue anywhere, Red Rocks. London:  well, what isn’t in this iconic city to do and see?

Avondale Travel recommends first time concert travelers stay right in the city. Although you’ll spend more money on the accommodations, you’ll save both time and money on transportation. We also suggest you arrive at least 24 hours before the concert. This allows you to get acclimated to your destination and de-stress. Before you go, read up on the location and make an itinerary for your stay. But don’t overpack your trip! You’ll probably be tired after the concert, so only choose what you really want to do while there.

Traveling for a concert

Be sure to arrive early to the show to get exclusive merchandise. Many concerts will have a commemorative concert poster and other merchandise in limited quantities. To prevent damage, bring a tube for the poster. This keeps it safe both during the concert and afterward on the airplane/train/car home!

Allow 3-5 days after the concert to explore the location. Cities are rife with cultural and historical sites ready to be investigated! For example, if you’re traveling to London, you can traverse the River Thames, visit the Tower of London or stand on the Prime Meridian. There are also local pubs and restaurants available to immerse yourself in the culture. Nothing beats dining with and getting to know the residents inhabiting the city.
